Chocolate Gumby - Isolated
Chocolate Gumby
(SC-Choco) - 10ml Isolated Spore Syringe
The SV-Choco mushroom strain, also known as Chocolate Gumby, is a distinctive hybrid developed by cultivator Dave Wombat. This strain results from a cross between two of Wombat's notable isolates: El Choco, a dark-pigmented mutation of B+, and Gumby, an offshoot from the unstable Melmak TP lineage. The combination of these parent strains has led to a mushroom with unique morphological features and growth patterns.
Origin & Development
- El Choco: An isolation of B+ characterized by dark chocolate-colored caps and stems.
- Gumby: A long-stemmed, narrow helmet-capped offshoot from the unstable Melmak TP strain.
The cross was performed using a di-mon pairing technique, where a monokaryon from El Choco was paired with a dikaryon from Gumby. This method resulted in a new dikaryotic growth that was propagated for fruiting.
Physical Characteristics
Chocolate Gumby exhibits a range of unusual and striking features:
- Cap: Displays chocolate pigmentation from El Choco, with early pins showing a gumdrop or bucket helmet shape reminiscent of Gumby.
- Gills: Notably thick and branching, with smaller gills on the sides of larger ones, creating a fractal-like appearance.
- Stipe (Stem): Exhibits extreme veining and a dense, wood-like texture.
- Growth Patterns: Fruits range from lumpy brain clusters with ribbon-like caps to inside-out gill formations.
The strain tends to produce large individual fruits spaced apart in the cultivation tub, rather than a full canopy flush. Development from pin to harvest can take up to a month.
